The EFI’s Regional Project Centre - MEDFOREX 2004-2008 is a continuation of MEDFOREX 1999-2003. The new phase of MEDFOREX was approved during the 10th EFI annual Conference that took place in Joensuu in August of 2003.

The new phase of MEDFOREX proposes to set up standard protocols for valuation, find values related to several types of Mediterranean forest, test the transferability of those values, develop integrated decision making tools, incorporate equity considerations when evaluating, and disseminate the results among the scientific community and a variety of end-users.

Funding sources

The core funds for the MEDFOREX Project Center are obtained from the Spanish Ministry of Environment and the Department of Environment of the Catalan government (Generalitat de Catalunya), while specific research projects will try to attract financing from other sources in order to increase the MEDFOREX scope.

 

 

The EFI MEDFOREX Project Centre active since the year 2000 has provided a successful platform for innovative research, co-operation and networking in Mediterranean forest research. As a step forward, and due to the International status of EFI the MEDFOREX PC will be transformed into the first Regional Office of EFI through an agreement between EFI and the Spanish government. Such Mediterranean Regional Office (called EFIMED), located in Barcelona will be beneficial for EFI and the Mediterranean forest research community, by giving a more prominent role of Mediterranean forest research in the structure of EFI.
